digital: my mutation

MyMutation 2009-10 Burstow, as creative producer, originated this project that was staged in 2009 and 2010 as part of the Sydney Opera House’s Spring Dance Festival. MyMutation was a worldwide internet-based dance performance competition that built to a live event and was the project that launched the Sydney Opera House’s YouTube channel. MyMutation was a response to the online culture of dance tribute clips and mash ups. Participants performed their own versions of an existing dance solo and then extended the solo with their own movement - a kind of Chinese whispers in dance. This process was extended through several rounds with the winner’s performance being featured in the live show at the Sydney Opera House.
